About FFA
Fjord og Fjell Akvarell (FFA) started as a dream by a Norwegian in Liverpool. That Norwegian is me; Beth-Helen.
I had started painting again, this time giving watercolours a chance. It was a good contrast to the Science degree I was working on at the time, and I fell more and more in love with it. My inspiration was landscapes from Norway, perhaps based on a longing out of the city and back to open landscapes.
In 2020 I started making my own watercolours. It was meant more as a fun project to make something useful to me but it became a lot bigger. I started small with some improvised tools and the result was a beautifully smooth, creamy, pigmented paint that I fell in love with. There is something special about using a product you made yourself. In fact, I enjoyed making it and was so happy with it that I decided to become better and see if there was a market for it. And there was, even as the pandemic created chaos I was able to expand my range of colours.
When planning the name of my business I was unsure of which language to use. I wanted something that worked well in English and Norwegian, but when I came to the current name I had to go for it. I was planning on moving back to Norway and it rang so well in Norwegian. It translates to "Fjord and Mountain Watercolour" which was my aim at the time; to make and paint with watercolours among the fjords and mountains of Norway. The compromise with calling it by the abbreviation in English had to be good enough.
A year later the business was set on hold to move back to Norway. Moving, especially internationally, under a pandemic is something I would not recommend. But everything went slow but alright, and now I live among the fjords and mountains making paint and painting landscapes
In addition to selling professional quality, handmade paints, I sell my art and want to help others to get to know this amazing medium.
